Hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, The Bristol Dollar has its roots in Americana, Kiwiana, Folk, Alt-Country, Blues and Swamp Rock. From these foundations they have built their own style of music that draws from each, and gives back something new.
Taking centre stage are the two lead vocalists, Bryan and Rebecca, each with their own style but the magic happens when the harmony work arrives and there is a real synergy in the voices. Sean, John and Jonathan provide the rhythm section and anchor the band. The instruments include resonator guitar, banjo, bass and cajon and set the tone for the alt-country, alt-folk, blues, swamp rock feel the defines the band.
The band released their debut recording, Love & Truth, in March 2015 featuring 9 original tracks, 3 covers of inspirational artists and live recording. This recording showcases the song writing talents, vocal harmonies and alt-folk rhythms that has made the band many fans in New Zealand, Australia and the USA.
They released their second CD in February of 2016. This one features 11 originals and two covers. The development of the new sound is now complete with a strong mix of crossover between alt-folk, alt-country, rock and blues. The self titled CD is available at all digital retail outlets.
For 10 years, from 2005 to 2015, the band were known as The Johnny Possum Band and during this time they released 6 CD’s, a live DVD, were finalists for New Zealand country music album and country music single of the year, visited the USA on 4 occasions, received a Rising Legends award and played at such famous venues as The WDVX Blue Plate Special, Music City Roots in Nashville and Music on the Square. In 2015 they decided to change their name to reflect their growth as musicians, and an evolution in their musical style. They toured Texas in March 2016.
